  • Assessment, refinement and demonstration of proven technologies/products under different ‘micro farming’ situations.

K.V.K ACTIVITIES

The specific activities to carry out this mandate are:

  • Conducting On-farm Testing to identify the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming systems
  • Organizing Frontline Demonstrations to establish its production potentials of various technologies on the farmers’ fields
  • Conducting need based training of farmersand rural youthto update their knowledge and skills in modern agricultural technologies
  • Conducting training of extension personnel to orient them in the frontier areas of technology development
  • Work as knowledge and resource centre of agricultural technology for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector for improving the agricultural economy of the district
  • In addition, in order to speed up the process of dissemination of technology, a large number of various extension activities and production of seeds and planting materials, livestock, poultry and fisheries breeds and various bio-products are taken up by the KVKs.

About KVK:

Krishi Vigyan Kendra is a district level innovative institution mainly concerned with Transfer of Technological knowledge through On-Farm Testing (OFT), Front Line Demonstration (FLD), training and Farm Advisory Services at grass root level. The KVK, Boudh since its inception from 2005 has been striving hard to achieve this mandate under the aegis of Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology, Bhubaneswar. The activities of the KVK have supported a cross section of farming communities to enhance productivity of rice, vegetables, oilseeds & pulses respectively. The achievement has been possible with the evaluation of new technology through On Farm Trials in participatory research mode, creating an impact to accept the best technology through Front Line Demonstration followed by capacity building training programmes. It is needless to highlight the impact of Kissan Mela, Exhibitions, Field days, Scientist visit to farmer’s field, Published extension literatures, Film show, Exposure visit and other extension activities which has motivated the farmers towards desirable direction. 

Aims and Objectives:

  • To demonstrate the latest agricultural Technologies to the farmers as well as the extension workers of the state Department of agriculture/Non-Governmental organization with a view to reduce the time lag between the Technologies generation and it's adoption.
  • To test and verify the Technologies in the socio economic condition of the farmers and identifying the production constraints
  • To get first hand scientific feed back from the fields and passing it to the research system in order to keep the scientist abreast with the performance of the technologies and the farming problems, so that they re -orient their research, education and training programmes accordingly.
  • To impart training to the farmers, farmwomen, rural youth and field level extension functionaries by following the principles of "teaching by doing" and "learning by doing".
  • To provide training and communication support to the line department of the state/NGOs.
  • To develop extension models to be adopted by general extension system for large scale multiplications.

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, a dream project of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, is mandated for assessment, refinement and demonstration of improved agro-technologies/products to bring social and economic upliftment of farming community of the country .The KVK , Boudh since its inception from 2005 has been striving hard to achieve this mandate under the aegis of Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology ,Bhubaneswar . The activities of the KVK have supported a cross section of farming communities to enhance productivity of rice, , vegetables ,oilseeds & pulses by 7.6,15.6,20 & 8 % respectively. The achievement has been possible with the evaluation of new technology through On Farm Trials in participatory research mode creating an impact to accept the best technology through Front Line Demonstration followed by capacity building training programmes. It is needless to highlight the impact of Kissan mela, exhibitions, field days and other extension activities & published literatures which has motivated the farmers of the district in this direction
